Sketchbook

Today I had a wonderful midday moment with art student Alessandra Bautista. Sitting across a table, we broke out our sketchbooks and drew each other for a half an hour. During our session, we caught up on Alessandra's plans to study at Rhode Island School of Design, commiserating about the challenges in fitting in unstructured, creative time into our over programed days. But it is precisely those quiet moments from which the imagination springs, keeping the flow of thoughts alive. By the time we were through catching up, we had captured the afternoon moment in our sketchbooks, my pencil sketch of her and her pen and ink illustration of me reflecting what we saw in each other.
